About Us

MoleMap was formed in 1997 by a group of New Zealand dermatologists who shared a vision and passion for developing a world leading melanoma & skin cancer detection programme that combined innovative imaging technology with the expertise of skin specialists.

The founders of MoleMap developed the company after observing that, despite continuing educational programmes promoting sun protection, the number of deaths from melanoma each year was not decreasing. They recognised that melanomas were not always being picked up in routine skin checks because the doctors carrying out these checks did not always have the technology or skills to recognise melanomas, particularly at the early stage.

Using the expertise of dermatologists, scientists, engineers and software developers, the MoleMap team pioneered a highly accurate skin imaging system for the early detection of melanoma – a system that ultimately helps save lives. The imaging systems are used in stand alone clinics, or within an existing general practice, for recording moles and other skin lesions. The clinics are connected to a network of expert dermatologists via a secure virtual private network. These dermatologists receive the data and images and use sophisticated software tools for an accurate and thorough assessment of all lesions.

Today MoleMap is viewed as leaders in the early detection of melanoma and the caring staff are there to provide the best possible experience to all patients. With the continued success of the programme in New Zealand, the MoleMap technology pioneered here is now used in clinics around the world.
